16 August 2018 GREENS UPDATE - Richie (scouse) Lloyd Vice Captain
Hi All... Craig our Head Greenkeeper is not on FB... however he sent this message earlier...
Hello everybody, all the greens scarified today, should play a little better, it will help stimulate the new growth that's showing, and help reduce thatch levels. Onwards and upwards! I hope everybody's enjoying the wider fairways!
15 August 2018 GREENS UPDATE - Richie (scouse) Lloyd Vice Captain
It is official that Craig is now our head greenkeeper. Steve moves on due to personal matters.
The agronomist visited today and has agreed with Craig that the greens will now take priority over any part of the course. This commences in the first two weeks of September when the greens will be micro hollow tined, over seeded and dressed. Secondary to this will be a new mowing plan for the course, which has already commenced (before you question the timeline, preparation is needed for commencing on the greens).
I should have added that Craig now has the irrigation system fully up and running with an automatic night watering plan in place..!!
As head greenkeeper Craig himself has put himself forward in September (date TBC) to hold a Q&A session, for any member to attend and ask questions about the golf course specifically and the way forward.
I thought it was only fair to update you and if you have any specific questions then please ask me directly and for the time being do not post them on Facebook.

8 August 2018 Have you wondered what the piles of logs are doing in certain copses of trees?
These have been placed by the green keepers to encourage local wildlife & insects to habitat.
So what does this mean should your ball end up in there? Although these areas are not marked, the green staff have designated them as GUR.
22 July 2018 GREENS UPDATE - Richie (scouse) Lloyd Vice Captain
I know some of you have been complaining about the state of the greens, so I caught up with Steve Gilford
last night on the second for just short of an hour...
FACT - The greens get watered Everyday, sometimes during the day but every night one of the green staff
is out on the course watering every green...
The issue is the grass, being ‘poa’ predominantly plus the ‘thatch’ still not at the being at a desired level, the greens do not hold the water. Steve is spending money on wetting agent to help and paying for a member of staff to be out every evening.
What’s the solution..?? He could over-seed with ‘fescu’ and ‘bent’ but it won’t take with the thatch still being at approx 2 inches, plus the weather is not helping..!! Therefore we have to wait, there is nothing else for it, agreed other local courses have green greens, but they have a better established grass (fescu and bent) and lower thatch levels, therefore their greens hold the moisture for longer.. The irrigation system does work, we just have issues with the pipe work that Steve is aware of.

The fountain is now operational on the 18th Lake and makes a nice final feature of the hole. It is on a timer so does not run 24hrs.
The fountain for the 9th currently has a pressure issue and we are working to resolve this.
